About Nature Photography by JP Bruce
I've been interested in photography since the 1970s. I did sports photography while working in New Castle, IN. Swimming and gymnastics were my favorite sports to photograph. I also spent many hours trying to capture scenic images.
I started digital photography in 2001. I now use Canon digital SLRs (20D and 40D) and a G10 and am happy with the quality and range of equipment they offer.
I have taken photography classes at the Sonoran Desert Museum. I have attended seminars by several top nature photographers. I particitated in a Photo Trek in Tucson lead by Reed Hoffman and Kevin Gilbert. The class at the Sonoran Desert Museum on Photographing Hummingbirds is what really got me serious about the craft. I would like to thank the excellent local photographers, John Sepp and Ned Harris for their guidance and encouragement.
I spent 3 days in 2007 taking bird photography Instructional Photo Tour lead by Art Morris at Bosque del Apache in New Mexico. It was a joy meeting and learning from one of the masters. The whole group was joy to be with and much valuble information was exchanged. I also attended his IPT at Bosque in Feb of 2009. It was just as good. I would recommend one of Art Morris's IPTs to anyone.
I attended a weekend seminar in Dec 2008 sponsored by NatureScapes at Bosque del Apache. I learned from Rick Sammon, Greg Downing and EJ Peiker. They were great instructors and Rick gave an enjoyable opening talk.
I attended the 2009 North American Nature Photographers Association annual summit. They had great speakers and many examples of great photography. All the people I met there were very friendly and most helpful.
I am a member of North American Nature Photographers Association, Nature Conservancy, Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum and Tucson Audubon. One of my photos was selected to be used in the Arizona Fish and Game Departments 2010 calendar.
I hope you enjoy the photographs as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
