Bio
I began my career in 1979 when a friend took me into a darkroom and made a black and white print for reference to a painting I was working on. I quit painting, bought a camera, and call myself "a painter in a hurry" even once in a while yet today.
By the mid 80's I had a large studio, a staff of twelve, great accounts and enough arrogance to warrant getting whittled back down to earth. Life got in the way, and eventually I was on my way to life as a buddhist monk in White Cloud Monastery in Beijing China. Life took a change again as I lived in Portland Oregon for 6 months before heading overseas, and met my wife while in Portland. Needless to say, I never became a monk, or made it to China, I got married, had two children and re-entered the world of making a living with images.
I have created two business start ups, and currently am a Director of Photography. I began selling fine art prints about five years ago and have had quite a few shows between 2003 and present.
In addition shooting assignment, fine art and stock images, I began teaching business planning, strategy and marketing classes through the Art Institute of Seattle and University of Phoenix.
I have never been more excited and determined about creating images than I am today. I have come to appreciate the rough spots, the dark corners, the shiny stars, the calm ponds, and the raging rapids of life's journey. I can tell a few good stories, I have solved innumerable issues, gained confidence, patience, understanding and knowledge along the way.
Images can tell stories, and I believe the author should have some depth, in order to convey the nuance required for interest and completion.
I have a lot of chapters left to accomplish, and outlines for many of them. The rest need collaborators, family, friends, mentors, muses, clients and partners.
I welcome the opportunity to discuss any potential collaborations, please contact me at ric@ricpeterson.com or 206.334.5308
All Good Wishes
